There was a book I used to read when I was younger.  I was in elementary school when I read it.  I can't for the life of me remember the name or author of it. The book was about two ghost children (brother and sister) and their ghost dog.  I think they died in a river or something. But they don't know their dead until someone moves into their house and another child sees them and befriends them.  that is all I remember of it.   I'd love to read this book again but I can't figure it out.  Can anybody help me out with this? Any help at all would be appreciated.  Thanks.

Amanda

I just pm'd you, but in case anyone else is interested, I believe the book she was looking for is the Old Willis Place by Mary Downing Hahn :0) If this is not the same book they sound eerily similar! :0)

Thank you for letting me know about The Old Willis Place. I found it at the library and read it and yes it does sound very similar to what I'm looking for. It did help me in remembering just a little more of the book I'm looking for.  The dog in the book is a beagle or something like that and the location is more in the city than in the country. The sister has freckles I believe. I appreciate the help.

I've been trying to remember the name of a book that I read as a child too.

A family moves into an old family house and the child(ren) meets a family ghost that drowned at about their age.

For some reason they need to locate a clue that was in either a "highboy" or "lowboy". I had no idea what either of these were, but think we would call them a hutch, and a buffet or sideboard today.

Does anyone remember this book? I think the ghost's name was Miles, and only the related child(ren) could see him.

BTW, there is a website called Stump the Bookseller where you can post story lines and see if she can find the book. She posts the queries and replies on her site, so you can search to see if your mystery book is there already. She charges $2 per query. I think she might apply that to the purchase price if you order from her...

Hi Amanda,

Thanks for starting this thread!

After posting here I went to the Book Stumper site and started reading more entries. I found my book under the M's for Miles! It is "The Ghost of Dibble Hollow" by May Nickerson Wallace.

Also this link may save you a few steps in finding the queries: http://www.loganberrybooks.com/stump.html

Chandra,

Thank you so much for posting that. I'll check out the book and lets hope its the one I'm looking for. And thanks for that link. I'll look at it also just to see what else I can find.  Take care. Have a great day!
