I once got a Craig 7 in tablet never could figure out how to use the dang thing.  All the information was in some Non-English directions.    So I took it back.   Now this is what my son is interested in for reading.   He will be downloading Kindle & Sony Apps so I can buy the ebooks he wants thru them.

So is this easy to use compaired to the 7in tablet?  Needless to say I am going to be the one stuck getting it to work & adding the ebooks for him.

IF not can you folks suggest another brand?

I'd be concerned that it's running an older Android system, Froyo, which came out in May, 2010. Last updated Nov, 2011.

You should check around to see that the Android apps he wants can be loaded and run on that older platform. Some of the newer versions of apps may not run on it, and you'd have to find an older version.

There's a history of the Andorid OS platform Here.

I'd not bother with it. Very outdated andriod system that many apps no longer support.  Only people I saw happy with it, had rooted it so they could update the android version

http://www.jr.com/craig/pe/CE1_CLP281/  I did find this similar price and by a good online company.  Has a better version of andriod 4.0 that will run kindle, nook etc apps.

You might want to wait until nearer Christmas, when new stuff is coming out and they'll want to get older stuff of their shelves.

Google is supposed to come out with a $99 tablet sometime later this year. (I have no idea when that would be, though)

Here.

I have a Nexus 7, and it's a georgous machine. I don't have any idea what would be pared down to make it $99 though, but if it's andord it should at least be able to run some good apps. I'd keep an eye out for what version OS they're using.

Because you can get outdated OS new out of the box. My brand new Galaxy Note phone was two versions old on it's Andorid OS right out of the box. DD was able to upgrade it for me, which wasn't a simple process, but she has the same phone and knew where and how to upgrade. So I lucked out.

But even new they may not be 'new'.

If only the male people in this house shared my love of these gadgets! I have enough to go around, and if not, would be thrilled to order more! But its mainly myself and my two little girls that like ereaders and tablets.
