I read it in the past 12 months---not on my Bookshelf or Transaction Archive, so I assume it was a library book---I remember it was hardcover and probably published in the past year or so.

Tale opens with young girl awakening frighten and blood-soaked in a cave.  She can't remember anything---not even her name.  I believe there is also a dead body of a man.  Somehow she staggers out and gets involved with a young man who, if my blurred impression is correct, was a combo Valley Boy + Lumberjack.  She seduces him.  (She's not as young as you think!)  Together they learn the truth about her history.  Is this enough info---I think it should be if someone has read it, but not so much to spoil if someone wants to read it.  NOT a YA.

The book finished and you could tell it would be open to a sequel, but when I went in to see if that was out yet, I learned that, sadly, the author (she) had passed away recently so...no sequel.  (I didn't mean that to sound cold or anything.)  Apparently the author---oh, I wish I could remember---was well-known, had won wards in either sci-fi or fantasy arena.  And for some reason I think she was black.

Is that enough info?  Thanks much!

Could this be "Fledgling" by Octavia Butler?

it sounds a lot like the beginning of Kissing Sin by Keri Arthur, except it was an alley she woke up in, not a cave.

Thanks, it IS Butler's Fledgling.  I wanted to track this down badly, I appreciate your help.  Now I need to go check out Kissing Sin---another book to add to my TBR list?

Darlene, I'm glad that was it!   Your clues about the author gave it away for me, rather than the plot.  I hate "losing" books like that.
