I am wondering how we get a book into the system that isn't pulling up. I know the name, author and ISBN, and have had no luck.  I want to add it to my wishlist (because obvsiously if it isn't in the system, no one is posting it).

Can anyone tell me how to do this?

Search the ISBN. Make sure you are searching "All Books" not just 'Posted Books". If nothing comes up, wait a while and repeat the search. I've had good luck with searching again within 5 or 10 minutes. Gotton myself to be #1 for several wishlist books that way. Other people say wait overnight.

Apparently, searching for something not currently in the database, causes the database to update. I don't know how often this happens or what tihe time interval is. It has worked for me so far, though.

Edited to say: When you search the ISBN, make sure it is without dashes in it. When I first joined, I was having trouble searching by ISBN becasue I would copy from, say, Amazon's page and paste into the search field, leaving the dashes. It took a few searches before I realized that I had to remove the dashes myself.

Thanks for the info, but I have already done the repeat search over a periof of a week or two.  Also, I have not used the dashes for the ISBN.

Hmmmm, I'd like to know how to do it too then. I haven't had one that didn't come after a short wait. Hopefully somebody out there knows a way...

There's an upcoming release in pb of a new book that I know the ISBN and the author and title - it won't pull up for me either no matter what I do.  It's not listed yet on Amazon - so until it is I doubt that it will pull up on a search here!

Here is the response I got from the PBS team.

There is no way to force an ISBN to appear in the system. Our database is updated on a regular basis, and this ISBN will eventually be added if the book is published in the U.S. The best way to find it is to enter the ISBN in the search box in the upper right of any page. Sometimes the system can go out and find the record and add it to the database if you search this way, but if not that means the record is not available at this time.

Actually, there IS a way to do this in the system. There was an old thread explaining how to do it. I did it, and a few months later, someone posted the book (that otherwise wouldn't have gotten posted as they wouldn't have been able to list it in the system.) It was in beautiful condition!

Here is the link to that thread. Scroll down to Mendy's post #14  and follow it exactly:

ummm... I've done this before and it works but it's the backwards way to do it.  Put your shelf on vacation hold.  Take the ISBN you have and post the book to your shelf.  It almost always kicks the info into the system.  Then I open a new window for PBS and click onto the book title, delete it from my bookshelf in the 1st window and WL it in the 2nd window.  Then I remove myself from vacation hold.  I just did it a week or 2 ago on a new book that was in Amazon's system but not in PBS's yet."

Because I removed the the Vacation Hold first, the book was accidentally moved to be on hold for someone - myself. I ended up having to cancel my own request and re-wish listing it again.  What a headache. It's now logged in my Transaction Archives as a cancelled WL request."

Another simple thing to try is to go to your TBR pile, click "Add book" button, copy/paste the ISBN into that screen and add the book to your TBR. It may let you do that--I've had books that wouldn't show up on a search add perfectly well to my TBR, and then there's no danger of forgetting it on your bookshelf, either. Anyway, if it does allow you to do that, find the book on your TBR, click on the book's details and from that screen click the "Add to WL" button. Voila! I did that trick just last week. It may not work (it doesn't always) but it something to try. Then, don't forget to delete the book from your TBR.
