I read this book many years ago and it was my mom's when she was young, so it's got to be at least 35 years old. A girl is staying with some relatives in Maine. She meets a boy and his sister and becomes friends with them. They boy wants to be a park ranger some day but ends up poaching deer to earn some money to help his family. I think at the end of the book they meet a famous author or someone living in a small cabin. It takes place on a lake. At one point the girl and the sister run across some dead deer hanging in a (barn?)
I'd love to read this book again, but I can't remember the name of it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
gosh I'm pretty sure I have this in paperback...I have no idea where Iput it and I'm drawing a blank on the title though Ican sota picture the cover in my head..I remember thinking it was almost a romance for teens..seems like the girl liked the guy and I didn't understand what was so bad about hunting deer! I'll keep racking my brain and see if I can come up with something..
ok, I'm pretty sure the book I'm thinking of is "Mystery at Deer Hill' by Virgina Frances Voight..couldn't find it listed here but on ebay they had pics of this title and the paperback looks familiar. I don't remember the story well enough to be sure but I'm pretty sure there was a teen hunting deer illegally...
