Hi RAOK friends! Thought someone here might  know the postal rules on using Sealing Wax Seals on envelopes. I LOVED using Sealing Wax on my fancy letters when I was a teenager. I vaguely remember that it may have been outlawed- due to jamming postal machines. I want to revive the art- but maybe one could have a double envelope so the seal would be inside another envelope. Anyone know??

I had lots of Sealing Wax and stampers- a collection but] gave all my sealing wax and stampers away many years ago- so looking for some. My cottage community has craft nights and I want to bring back using Sealing Wax and Stampers.  If you have any that you are willing to let go of- let me know and I would be willing to trade for some free books- I have a huge inventory of books- that are not listed.

Thanks for any answers about Sealing Wax regulations for US maiil.

Blessings, Jody M

http://pe.usps.com/text/dmm300/503.htm -  Paper or cellulose strips or wax or paper seals must not be placed over the intersections of flaps of letter-size envelopes where the postmark impressions are made.

Looks like USPS says no.  I'm sure the double-envelope idea would be fine, though.

That passage only pertains to registered mail.

2.0 Registered Mail

2.4.6 Sealing

The mailer must securely seal envelopes. Paper or cellulose strips or wax or paper seals must not be placed over the intersections of flaps of letter-size envelopes where the postmark impressions are made.

hmmmm, sealing wax goes on back of envy not on front where postmarks are.  Do they mean "not on the back under" where the postage would be stamped "cancelled"??
