I am actually thinking of getting a NookColor to compliment my Nook.  Does anyone have both?  I like the things that the NookColor do that the Nook doesn't.  I love my Nook, but I think it would be perfect to have both.  Am I crazy?!?  I'm crazy....right?

Can you have them both on the same B&N account?  How would it work for ebooks?  Would the libraries be the same?  Does any of this make sense?

Help!!!

DH bought the nook, then the color one came out so he bought that one and gave me his nook. He loves it. He likes the color for the magazines he reads and he watches a lot of videos, etc on the nook color.

Barbara - what defects? DH uses his every day and has had no complaints and he is very tech savvy.

I have a nook and my husband thinks he wants a nook color for his birthday (2/15)... so we might have one of each in the house shortly.  I'll be interested to see what I think of his nook color.  Hopefully I won't like it too much!!

Barbara - I just checked out the B & N discussion forums and the vast majority of people there are very pleased with their Nook colors. Please elaborate on the factory defects. Of course, there will be an occasional unit that has to be returned. We bought my mom a Kindle 3 for xmas and have had to return it because it won't hold a charge.

I just bought a Nook Color on Friday and finished my first NookColor book last night.   I crashed it my first day because I listened to the crazy people on the discussion forums about using Cailibre and that nonsense.  Had issues with it, called customer service who answered the phones at 7:30 AZ time on Saturday (which is unheard of for most CS lines I call) who explained the ins and outs to me and had me back up and running in 15 minutes.  I learned my lesson on listening to the people on the forums for tech help and called the experts!  I use Adobe Digital Editions - which is what nook is supposed to use - and it works with my existing sony reader library.

I'll grant that the user guides for the NookColor aren't very helpful, but it does EVERYTHING I need it to do.  Facebook, email, web browsing.  The only thing I can't do that I wish it could do (and it might happen down the road) is that I wish I could check out library books on the fly instead of side loading from my laptop.

I don't see the point of spending $500 on an ipad when you can get the nook color for half that?

Hi Elissa,

There are things that the iPad has that a Nook Color doesn't (like TV Shows and Movies, the ability to work with Microsoft Office products, synching to enterprise e-mail accounts, Kindle app, virtual meeting software, ... ... ...) but remember the iPad is not positioned as an eReader, but rather a full functioning tablet comp.  I do a lot of real work on my iPad (so I no longer need a laptop when I travel) but, yes, I probably use it as an eReader as much as those of you who have dedicated eReaders like the Kindle and Nook do.  For my needs, it has been well worth the additional cost (and when I got it, there was no such thing as a NookColor, so I didn't have that option).

While I'm totally in love with the iPad, I get that it is not the thing for everyone.  When people ask me to recomend an eReader (and they do, often) I find out what they need/want: I do often find that the 'extras' that I rely upon for the iPad are irrelevant to them.  In that case, I do think it would be wise to save the money and get a Nook (or Kindle) and that is the recomendation I make.

Me, I'm just thrilled there are so many OPTIONS now.  And people can get what is right for them!

:)

Just an FYI - DH watches TV shows and movies on his Nook Color :-)

I do agree though that the ipad does have more functions (hence the addl $)

Remember the iPad is much heavier. After awhile, if you are holding it up and not resting it on your lap, table, etc. it takes away from the enjoyment of reading, because you start concentrating on the weight of the device.  JMHO

Hi M.E

I know a lot of people who have and love the Ipad.  They've replaced laptops at my office.  My post was in response to Barbara's who said the original poster should take her Nook back and get an iPad instead.  My thought is that if you just want a reader that does cool stuff - like lets you download books  and magazine son the fly and hooks up with your facebook account and email, then a device like the NookColor is right up your alley, and a more cost effective choice.

But, if you want a computer that also makes a nifty reader, then by all means - the iPad or one of the new Droid tablet (like the Xoom - which my husband is salivating over) is more what that person should consider.

I'm also thrilled with the options and hope that the publishers get on board and make everthing available to everyone!  I feel like we're living through the VHS/BetaMax  or BlueRay/HDDVD debates all over again! In my mind - any ereader should be able to read all ebooks! :)

I did get a NookColor to balance out my Nook Classic and I'm glad I did.  For an e-reader, the Nook Classic is perfect.  Like Elissa, I like the Nook Color for facebook, web browsing, etc.  As they update the Nook Color, I think it'll be even better.

So I'm glad I am in such good company and I don't feel strange at all!!

I bought my Nook Colour two days ago from best buy w/ the free cover...though I am waiting for them to mail it to me as they were out at the store...had to insist on it w/ custumer service as the floor manager said "while supplies last" which was bs.  Glad my hubby was w/ me I wouldn't have argued, they only had two in the store and I practically ran to that register lol.

And I'm not giving up papberback books either, that same day I found a new ( to me) used bookstore and bought half a dozen more books for my tbr shelf.

So far I've managed to link my facebook and gmail acct....wheee and now am looking for contacts and people to lend and borrow from.  What sold me on this ereader was that ability to lend and to borrow books from my library...on hold already for a few at the library.   So any more helpful links for that would be appreciated.

Just found the E reader forums here....I only have the Nook Color, bought early in December.  LOVE it. Have not had any real issues with it.  It's a big heavier than I would like but didn't like the look of the Kindle and didn't want the original Nook as I wanted the anticipated extra features the Nook might have once they get their app store going. Very happy to be able to surf & email using it.  All my friends own the Kindle, no one owns either the Nook or Nook Color.
