What are your thoughts?  Is it any better than the last few?  I've only read the first chapter and I've rolled my eyes 100 times and feel like throwing the book at the wall.  Please tell me...does it get better or am I wasting my time?

I loved it, but if you didn't like the last few novels by her than you won't like this one either.

The first few chapters were awful, but the rest of the book wasn't too bad. I thought it was better than the couple of books that proceeded it (sorry, I've blocked out the names and can't remember off hand!) :)

I just couldn't believe she started to book right away w/ the sex....My god!!  I'm not a prude but it's ridiculous at this point...um some plot please.  I've read about 60 pgs now and it is a bit better...I'm sure I'll stick it out...then wonder, again, why I wasted my time!

in this one i think most of the sex is in the beginning, then we get into the plot.  i thought that this one was an improvement over the last one, and getting closer to back on track.

I agree Ellen, once you get past the initial sex scene then the book seems to get back on track.  The other crazy sex scene she didn't even write and just had Anita wake up and not remember, so at least we didn't have to suffer through it...lmao.

I buy everything Laurell K Hamilton publishes, but I do wish her newer Anita Blake books would have a bit more plot in them. I don't care how much sex she wants to have or who she wants to have it with, but I would like something else to happen as well. Grisly murder to solve, master vamp to out-manuver, renegade wolf pack to be defeated, a vampire or two to execute, something!

I hope so.  When I started them she had 12 of them published already, so i wizzed through them all happy to be able to read one right after the other. Now I have to wait for the next one and I hate waiting! At least Swallowing Darkness will be out in a few months.

Ditto, was very happy that a large majority of the sexcapades were in a blackout and not elaborated on, other than just random strangers happening into the room for the festivities.

I don't like how she's gotten into the habit of introducing characters just to drop them by the wayside at the end of the book with nearly no explanation. I always thought one of her strong points was creating great characters that we can't help but like and/or hate but recently we just have characters coming and going with practically no purpose but a sex scene or maybe not even that. And whatever happened to red-headed Larry? I miss the guy!
