It's heading towards summer and I'm looking for a light mystery series. Has anyone read any of Mary Jane Maffini's Camilla MacPhee or Fiona Silk mysteries? Or any of Jess Lourey's Murder by the Month mysteries? Thoughts?

I have not read either of these authors but it looks as though there is a fourth book in the Murder by the Month series called "August Moon". They look fun!

You're going to find a lot of fans of Jess Lourey's books here on PBS - me included.   But then I'm a little biased, since I live in Minnesota and that's where the books are set :-)

Lynne I understand the location bias. I too love reading books when the locale is my home state of Virgina.  I just wish there were more. Right now I'm working on two, Elena Santangelo's Pat Montello series and Ann McMillian's Civil War Mystery series. Of course those are especially interesting because I live in the middle of civil war country.

I personally tried reading the first Jess Lourey book and didn't like it at all...I gave up on it before the halfway point. I normally have a 50-page rule where I quit a book if it hasn't got my interest by the first 50 pages, and I gave May Day a lot longer because I'm also from MN and it was a local author. It's just way too "chick litty" for me and didn't appeal to me at all.

I haven't tried Mary Jane Maffini's books at all.

Cheryl,  I can understand that.  Jess Lourey's books are definitey "chick-lity".  And if you don't like that style, then you probably aren't going to like her books.

I haven't read the 2 Maffini books you mentioned, but I just finished the 2nd in her organizer series- Charlotte Adams, and I really enjoy that series :)
