Just obtained a copy but haven't yet started it.  Looking forward to comments from others.

I'm just past the halfway point. So far: excellent.

Finished. O.M.G. Flawed though it may be, The Orphan Master's Son is among the most intensely freakish books I've ever read. The closest thing I can recall would be Zone One and the effect that Apocalypse Now had on me when I first saw it. Not for the faint-hearted in any sense: challenging goings-on, challengingly written. You have been recommended, and warned.

If you do read TOMS, make sure to pair it afterwards with Barbara Demick's Nothing to Envy: Ordinary Lives in North Korea. It will illuminate the novel and make it less outrageous, as the novel reverberates throughout the documentary accounts and makes them all the more frightening. They should box these together as a gift set.

I downloaded it as an audiobook, wasn't sure if I'd like it. Glad to see it's worthwhile.

I am almost done with TOMS, and I have to agree with V. I requested Nothing To Envy from the library, I'll be starting that over the weekend.
