Do people really believe women are not smart enough to know the difference between reality and fiction?  Does the author of this article think that if I enjoy a good murder mystery - it's because I'm planning a murder in real life?  Or if I watch a soap opera, that I'll think it's okay to sleep with my boyfriend's step-son, get pregnant with his baby and then hook up with the aging owner of the towns largest company and pass the baby off as his, so that I can get him to divorce his glamorous wife for me, a high school dropout and daughter of the town drunk who came back to town using a false identity to show everyone how awesome I am now?  LOL.   If characters are having sex in the book you're reading and they don't mention a condom.....would that really be something you thought about during a sexual encounter in real life - the fact that characters didn't practice safe sex, so you don't have to either??  If so, then somebody isn't doing something right....that's all I got to say.  LOL

Blame Fabio If Your Romance Fails

What do you'all think....are we losing touch with reality, cause we like to read Romance?

Oh good God she pulled out the old rape fantasy trope. No, forceful men in fiction or even rape non-consent fantasies do not imply that women would be all for getting raped or tossed over a man's shoulder in real life. Considering every study I've seen done on the topic shows more than half of women have rape fantasies I highly doubt it's going to be an alpha male in a romance novel who tips the scales over into women lining up to get raped or dominated in real life.

This inability so many people have between telling reality and fiction apart might help explain why the quality of our news reporting has gone down the drain though.

This goes right back to the thread I started just a few days ago where I commented that people see romance books as trashy.  I just dont understand why people feel this genre is one to easily rip apart and denigrate. I am an intelligent women with a post graduate degree and I read nearly a book a day all romance or erotica.  I know the difference between fiction and reality.  Please people give us some credit, they are called fantasies not realities for a reason!

Why do I read these kind of articles, they just make my blood boil!

Okay, off to read about a hot sexy alpha male and escape into my fantasy world. wink

I've been reading romance novels since I was 13.  Never once did I believe that there was a guy that was going to give me toe curling orgasms or I'd find my true love later on down the roald or whatever was happening was going to happen to me.  It was my escape from the real world to a fantasy world for just a few hours.  I have found that those who judge romance novels tend to have never touched them to understand our love for them.

OMG....do you mean that an awesomely handsome, tall, muscular, single, foreign, strait, billionaire is not going to show up one day as my new boss, take one look at me sitting at my desk typing, fling me over his exceedingly wide shoulder and haul me out to his chauffeur driven car, have his wicked way with me (multiple times), realize he cannot live without me, demand that I quit my job so that I can be available for 24/7 unprotected nookie while we fly around to his many homes/businesses on his private jet, only then to declare that we must get married as he perhaps could have gotten me pregnant, at which point we'll have to move into a fabulously large family friendly home (complete with snooty help), where he will realize that he married me because he fell in love with me and then I'll cry and announce that we're going to have twins in a few months (which I obviously know because my boobs have gotten way larger, but I've lost weight everywhere else from the constant morning/afternoon sickness) and we will then live happily ever after?

That's not going to happen?  Ever?   OMG....I am totally crushed........
