I am new to homeschooling and really like what I see in Tapestry of Grace curriculum...I have 3 young kids an dwe could start all together now and continue together....a HUGE bonus.  Anyway, I just wanted to know if anyone uses it and any beginning advice they have as it is a bit overwhelming.  Thanks!!

Lynne

I have been using it this year - it is my first year -- it certainly can be overwhelming!  My children are in 5th grade and (mostly) 3rd grade.  I like the amount of choices for the teacher and student.  It seems better geared toward the older student.  At the younger ages (IMO), focussing on skills (3 Rs - reading, writing, arithmetic) may be a better fit plus some unit studies.   The unit studies can keep them all together and offer flexibility.

How old are your children?

The oldest is 6 and she can't get enough of anything history, so I thought I'd try it next year for "1st" grade.   My middle child (4) "does school" with us and is keeping up with her big sister so I want to use TOG at least as a foundation for her.  My 2 year old sits with us (sometimes) and tries not to eat his play-do :).  I am willing to do the work, and the flexibility without three differentt curriculums is great (my 2 oldest are vastly different in their learning styles.

Did you but all the books?  and if not, how much searching did it take to find them at libraries?  That is the most intimidating part for me....making sure they get the books that are best for them and trying to track them down without putting us in debt.

I have used it in the past and feel it is a very good curricula. Just just have to keep reminding yourself that you don't have to and just plain can't do it all.  I found most of the book selections to be very good and if you want to substitute another book, that's OK.  The discussion question for the original book might not match up totally with another book, but you knew what they were supposed to be gleaning from it. It is great if you have more than one age level, as they are all on the same time period. I found many books at library sales, on used book websites and on here. I recommend buying the spine books are you used them the most.

Hope this helps, Nina

Thank You for the advice and tips. I will have to remember NOT to do every activity and option.  Thank you.
