i just applied at butler county community college. It has open enrollment (no student turned down). I however have to find aid and cannot find anything on the internet. I suck at searching the web, I have applied for FAFSA last night, also I did my school application last night. But the course is 64 credits at $93 a credit. I know that I should qualify for some sort of help since last year my husband and I together only made $14,000 and now my husband is unemployed. I make roughly $600 a month and put out well over that in bills. I graduated high school in 2006 with a 2.6 GPA. I know that it should have been higher and that it would've help me now that I have decided to further my education. Also i have extremely bad credit due to some poor judgmnt choices with my ex. If anyone could help me with direct links or even names of scholarship/grants or anything else that might be of assistance. If you need to know more information to help me out pm me and I'll do whatever i can to help.

Nikki

Thanks I got my fafsa results and the college has them now. I am still fighting with the high school i went to to get my transcripts. The college told me as soon as I receive them to call and set up an appointment to meet with them and they will try to help me get everything straight

Nikki, first, congrats on going back to school! Second, you should qualify for a full PELL grant based on the information you provided above. That will be a little over $4000. The money will be sent to the school to cover your tuition & books. You will receive the remainder in a lump sum check each semester. (The PELL only covers the fall & spring, so if you want to attend in the summer, you will have to save some of your financial aid check.)

Also, schools determine who get low-income grants based on the FAFSA. The sooner you complete the FAFSA & get everything turned in, the better. Schools usually have early deadlines for determining grant & scholarship $.

Here in NC, we have a terrific website: www.cfnc.org. This website has links to all kinds of scholarships. Check to see if your state has a similar website. Check CFNC also to see if you qualify for any of the monies available there, too.

Also, check out the website from the Department of Education regarding Educational Opportunity Centers. EOC's are designed to help you search for financial aid for FREE (Never pay to do a Fin Aid search!). Here's the website to start with:

http://www.ed.gov/programs/trioeoc/index.html

Good luck with your financial aid search! Good luck at college, too! Remember--never give up!

Rita.

 ETA:

PS--Check with your local JobLink Center or Employment Security Commission and ask about the WIA program. (Workforce Investment Act) --Depending on what you are taking in school and your financial & personal situation, you may qualify for the program and can get help with tuition & supportive services. It's a lengthy application process, but if you get in, they can pay for car repairs, gas reimbursement, uniforms & supplies, and much more... Also, they have a summer employment program for youth ages 14-24.

Hey everyone. So I am going for my placement testing this saturday. I also found out that I qualify for $2500.00 for my summer semester. Which should cover all of the Credit money and hopefully the gas to get back and forth. I will keep everyone updated on what is going on so keep checking back.

i went for my placement testing yesterday. I was in a way harder and easier then I had expected. I just wish that circumstances would have been different and I would have went right when I got out of highschool. There was only Writing skills which covered grammar, puntuation and spelling. Im pretty sure that I blew that portion because those are things that I have never been good at. The next was Reading comprehension, I know I did well at that simply because it was extremely easy. The third portion was Mathematics, I dont know what to think about this portion because much of what they had I havent done since my 7th grade year and dont really remember much of it. Anyway I will let you know what the results are and what classes they have me registered for as soon as I can. TTYL.

Here's another possible website for more scholarship money: fastweb.com . You complete a questionnaire about your family history and where you live and what groups your family belongs to, and they match up several possible grants, scholarships, and other contests that you can participate in, based on the info you provide.

Best wishes girlfriend!
