This book felt a little slow at the start and I was thinking that I liked this first book better. But midway through, it really picked up and the end had me excited and reading quickly.

lots of fun. More development of the ethical implications of Artemis' actions. Definitely makes me want to read more of the series.

The second book in the Artemis Fowl series, it was a quick read, very entertaining. The same characters that we saw in the first book, with a few new faces, and an entirely new evil plot by the now-13-year-old criminal mastermind. Very good for a quick and easy read.

This is one of the Eoin Colfer classics - possibly the best in the Artemis Fowl series. Just a great fairy tale. Don't be fooled by the word 'fairy': it has a load of shooting and science fiction! Make sure you read Artemis Fowl first.

Very engaging book. I was surprised how much I liked it, as an adult. The author spins a fun tale about a boy-genius who discovers the covert world of fairies and their police force.

At the start of his second adventure, Artemis is at boarding school in Ireland when he receives an urgent video email from Russia. In it is a plea from a man who has been kidnapped by the Russian Mafiya-a man Aretemis had thought he would never see again; his beloved father. As Artemis rushes to his recue, he is stopped by a familiar nemesis, Captain Holly Short ofteh LEPrecon fairy police. But this time, instead of battling fairies, he is going to have to join forces with them if he wants to save one of the few people in the world he loves.

This is Book 2 in Colfer's Artemis Fowl series - I read the first one, wasn't all that into it, but sort of wanted to like the series enough that I read this one too. Nope - still wasn't very into it.
In this one, the 13-year-old amoral genius Artemis Fowl gets a little bit less amoral, as he ventures to the radioactive (why?) Arctic to rescue his father, who's been kidnapped by the Russian "Mafiya." At the same time, the LEPrecon headquarters gets taken over by a traitor in their midst, and in order for them to both solve their problems, Artemis and the fairy Holly Short must team together - and even recruit a criminal dwarf to help out.
The book is, I believe, aimed at kids around 10-12 years old. It's a bit too simplistic for me, I can't get into the Fairy Police Force being exactly like a human police force, and the humor is rather crude (lots of fart jokes).
This may be other people's cup of tea... but not really mine.
