When Paul Madriani's old friend, flamboyant criminal-defense lawyer Nick Rush, is gunned down on the streets of San Diego along with a client, Madriani sets out to find the killer. He follows the trail through shady real-estate dealings, cross-border smuggling, political corruption, and a nasty fight between Rush's ex and his young trophy wife over a hefty life-insurance policy. Eventually the case leads Madriani to the Yucatan Peninsula near Cancún, where the last third of the book takes place--a dandy locale for skullduggery, even if it does make you suspect that the author thought up the plot while vacationing there.

If you love the legal drama, you will love this book. Same formula as most of his other work but winds and turns that make it interesting.

As always, Steve Martini does not disappoint me in this book. Paul Madriani refuses to represent a man who he suspects is involved in drug trafficking. He and his friend part company right before the arraignment and both his friend and his client are shot in a drive-by shooting, or at least it appears that way. Paul feels some guilt and decides that he must find out what is going on and the task leads him through corporate law firms all the way to the dense jungle in Mexico. This was great and I was totally unprepared for who the "bad guy" was! Plenty of action, suspense and thrills in the book.

I did not like it as well as some of the earlier books in the series. Not as much court room action for one thing but still good.

One of his best in this series. And that's hard to say since I'm addicted to all his books!

Typical style and story line of Martini. A fairly quick read.

If you like Grisham, you'll LOVE Steve Martini - not the cookie cutter characters of a Grisham novel but hard driven, exciting and fast paced.

Entertaining but forgettable. Part legal, part mystery, part thriller.

I just finished this book today. I have to say the title is a little misleading. Read the excerpts first before you order. I thought this took place in a courtroom and it didnn't but it had to do with lawyers.
