Search - Art of Deception, The (Lou Boldt/Daphne Matthews)(Abridged)

Since I enjoyed Pearson's "The Angel Maker" so much, and became a fan of Pearson's main characters - Lou Boldt and Daphne Matthews, I decided to give this one a listen to. In some ways it failed to measure up to his previous novels, but in other ways, it proved to be a worthwhile selection. Lou Boldt is NOT the main character in this novel - which surprised me a little! This particular book showcases Daphne Matthews and John LaMoia. The three characters continue to grow (which brings you closer to each of them); Previous problems such as Boldt's wife's cancer have fallen aside, and new challenges, such as the emerging relationship between his friends and coworkers. Daphne struggles to find meaning in her life, LaMoia re-examines his life prior to his daily pill addiction The interplay of the characters will keep you interested and waiting to see "what happens to them next". The locale of this novel is what perked my interest, it all revolves around Seattle's Underground, a subterranean ghost town of abandoned homes and shops existing beneath the newer, flood resistant city built on top nearly a century ago, a place I never even knew existed! It's in this spooky landscape that Pearson's expertise in the "manhunt" comes to life with! Pearson's mastery of suspence, along with his extensive knowledge of police procedures and Forensic Science insure that I wil continue to seek out his other books. As I intimated in the beginnig, this particular book, left me a little "flat" in some parts, but excited in others. I guess this one will have to be a personal opinion type book - You may not agree with my review, which is fine, but give it a try at least - and form your own opinion, and add your review to the growing list.
