Before there was Julia & Julie, there was M.F.K. Fisher who, like Julia Child, ended up in France as a young WWII-era bride. She learned of French cuisine, culture and ingredients from the "bonne femme" with whom she lived and worked. Many charming stories in this memoir, some based in California's Wine Country as well.
