I am a new member and I have a number of audiobooks on MP3 disc.  I asked and PBS audiobooks don't accommodate this format.  I know I can send to Goodwill, etc. but I wondered if any member would be interested?  You can email me through the club.

Ada - Welcome! You can list the Audio Books in MP3 you have in a post in Book Bazaar and see if anyone is looking for them.  You can ask for up to the PBS rate for the books (2 for audio, 1 for all others) or offer a deal on them. Just make sure to mention why they are not postable into the PBS system.

PBS audiobooks don't accommodate this format

I really don't understand why they cannot be posted (assuminng they have their own unique ISBN)?

If you search "audio books" in the help documents, you will find this: "Can downloaded/burned/copies of audio books be traded? No. Please swap only original audio books. Do not swap CDs that have been burned by individuals. There are copyright issues involved for copied material. Also, when copies are involved, there is more room for damaged or unreadable material. Downloaded audio books (for example, from audible.com) are also not permitted. We know that you paid for these, but we have no assurance that these are the only copies that were made." (Edit to add quotes)

Are they books you downloaded (from someplace like Audible) and then made CDS of? Of is it an MP3CD that was issued by the publisher?  Homemade ones from downloaded audiobooks  (like from audible) are not postable. But some publishers issue an MP3CD and those are postable.  Just not the bootleg ones.

Producing CDs from a downloaded book and then selling or trading them is illegal. So don't offer them in the bazaar either if they are CDS you made yourself from a book downloaded from the internet.

Ay, yes, I didn't even think of the probability of being a downloaded copy as an MP3. If they are downloaded or burned and not an original CD, they cannot even be traded in the Bazaar I don't think. Those are not just unpostable, they are illegal to transfer for value.

"is it an MP3CD that was issued by the publisher?"

Isn't this what the original poster meant?

If you plug in the ISBN, you may find the CD already listed in the PBS database, but it has to be the original manufacturer's CD. If it is already in the database and doesn't list the format as MP3, submit a book edit and put Audio CD, MP3 in the description. I also add: CD player must be able to play MP3 format.

Something like:

Audio CD, MP3
CD player must be able to play MP3 format.

Here's an active example:

How to Grow a Backbone (Audio CD. MP3) (Unabridged)

I have traded and received several MP3CDs here but they were all the actual original CD not copied from a downloaded book. I've had people PM and make sure I knew it was an MP3 and I have PM'd people.  NOrmally I don't PM people about a books condition but I do with the MP3 because not everyone knows you need a special player to use them.  I can only play them on my computer and have to transfer them to my IPOD.  (I delete when I'm done).  THey won't play in my car.
