I need help finding more authors that write historical romance books with more suspence in them.  I'm not sure if that is a category or not.  I just like to have more of a story than just romance.  Any suggestions??   I have liked and read Elizabeth Thornton, Amanda Quick, and many of the other more popular authors such as Kleypas, Mederios, Garwood, etc but need some suggestions of others.  Hope you can help

Thornton was the first name that came to mind. A lot of Candace Camp's books have a mystery in them.

What about Brenda Joyce?   She had that series with the police captain and crimes.  And I really like Elizabeth Elliott.  She has a new book coming out soon.

A good place for leads is All About Romance.

Deanna Raybourn wrote a series about a lady turned detective. They are called Silent in the Grave. Silent in the Sanctuary, and Silent on the Moor. They are really good.

The Pink Carnation series by Lauren Willig is a great combination of chick lit & historical romantic suspense (like on the chick lit and heavier on the historical romantic suspense).  The first book is The Secret History of the Pink Carnation.

Tasha Alexander has written (2? 3?) novels that are similar in feel to Deanna Raybourn's and are quite good. Here's the link to the first one:  And Only to Deceive

Love Lauren Willig.

C.S. Harris-this is Candace Proctors alias.  These are more mystery then romance but there is a romance in them.  http://csharris.net/

Elizabeth Lowell--Autumn Lover has a suspense element. As does the one that follows it, Winter Fire. They are western historicals.
