Ask James Frey on that one.  This seems to be a trend lately and I'm really upset about it.  I couldn't get through the fifth book either, but it is her series and those characters are her babies.

If you haven't seen this article yet, I strongly suggest you check it out.  It looks like as YA books are becoming cool, it is becoming less of an art form and more of an industry.

Wow. I do not read the series but think it is ridiculous that they fired her because they didn't like the romantic pairing she was heading towards. Ridiculous! I feel so badly for this author and can't imagine what shwe is going through. I imagine the other authors with this publishing house are going over their contracts or any potential new ones are going to be looking extra closely to be sure this can't happen to them.

That's so sad.  I guess it's another example of how you always need to carefully read any contract you sign.  You never know how something will come back to bite you in the future.

My sister just told me that the idea for the book series was the publisher's.  So they gave it to her, they technically have every right to take it back.  Not saying I'm happy about it, just that it's legal.  :-(

Yeah, it sounds like she first got the idea through Alloy Book, which was a book packaing company where that was common practice (come up with the idea, contract a writer, sell the idea to the publisher).  Sad, but legal if  you know what' you're signing in the first place.

It's too bad.  :(

Well, I will say this... the prequels to the series, Stefan's diaries, which are based on the TV show, are not written by her at all....  she has just been mildly involved...  and they are so much better written....  although, the 5th book, I found appealing....  it was the 4th one that I struggled through...

I am disgusted though, after reading these articles, that the reason is because they didn't want her taking Elena down a path involving a relationship with Damon....  she and Damon have SOOOO much chemistry.....  this makes me think they might never go that way on the TV show either and that would really be a bummer!!!

I have been trying to get through the vampire diaries forever now, i find L.J. Smiths writing so boring. I am glad they got someone else to write in her name.
