My  mom likes simple Detective novels. stabbing, shooting or such,  Just no 32 stab wounds and sending body parts thought the mail Etc.

Can anyone help, She likes Alex Cross by James Patterson and a friend told me about Faye and James Kellerman. Althought I think James will be a bit to much for her from the looks of his discriptions.

Thanks for any help. From a Sci-fi lover.

Has she tried any of the cozy mysteries? My mom always loved the Agatha Christie style "simple" mysteries and really likes most cozies, especially the Chritopher Fowler Peculiar Crimes series. Also, if she likes the Alex Cross series she may like the Harry Bosch series by Michael Connelly, I found those to be similar.

You could try her on the Kevin Kerney series by Michael McGarrity or the Alex McKnight series by Steve Hamilton.  I always recommend the Joe Pickett series by C.J.Box and the Walt Longmire series by Craig Johnson though both of these are set in rural Wyoming and feature a game warden and a sheriff, respectively.  I love both these authors and recommend them to everyone!

As for the Kellermans, you must me Faye and Jonathan, not James.  I like the Jonathan Kellerman series but I've not gotten into the Faye Kellerman stuff.  Their son Jesse Kellerman also writes.  I've not read his books but it looks like it might be a lot more gorey than his parents'.

I agree with polbio's Michael Connelly suggestion.    I also agree with LeeAnne's CJ Box and Craig Johnson recommendations.

A couple others I'd add is Sue Grafton's Alphabet series featuring Kinsey Milhone and John Lescroart's Dismas Hardy/Abe Glitsky books.

I've read both Faye and Jonathan Kellerman--personally, I like Faye's books better than Jonathan.  I do like Jonathan's books too, though.  But, I think they're rather tame (in respect to blood and gore) when compared to James Patterson's Alex Cross mysteries!

Jewl - another option for large print books is an e-reader. We bought my mom one and now she won't read a paper book! She can make the font any size she likes and we can purchase e-books online and have them download right to her e-reader. Just a thought in case the large print books are hard to find for some of the series.
