Since the age of 14, Amanda Cauden has been groomed to be the 'perfect' woman. Every waking minute of her life is dictated by her emotion-less tutor, Taylor Driscoll, whom she is expected to marry. Amanda is an encyclopedia of knowledge, but she is not pprepared for a man such as Dr. Henry Montgomery, who arrives to improve the working conditions of migrant farm workers in the area. Amanda slowly wakes up to the world around her; a world she has been carefully protected from for many years. The author has based this book on actual historical facts more so than any other book she had written to this time. Not only is this a wonderful romance story, yet sometimes nerve racking as you'd like to string Taylor up by his thumbs!, but it is very telling of the way people lived during the early 1900's. A great read.
