I just got the best birthday gift EVER.

My eldest son, Nic, called to tell me that he and his partner, Dennis, are flying in at the end of the month!! They're going to stay a week with us!

When Nic left 4 years ago, he was 19 and hadn't come out yet.  There were a lot of problems (mostly his, he'll admit).  I saw him once about 6 months later but he was so angry that he came in, went to his bedroom and packed some stuff and was gone again in 15 minutes.  No hug, no conversation beyond "I'm getting some stuff."

We've always been very close.  I was a single mother for 4 years with him.  With my younger son, I've always shared him with others.  So Nic and I have always had a special bond.

I can't wait to see him again!  He travels a lot for his job and it's never worked out for me to fly where he is and visit.  We've reconnected on the phone and through emails since he's been gone but I haven't been able to see him or hold him.

I spent a long time on the phone with Dennis, too, to make sure he feels comfortable about staying with us.  Silly boys, they wanted to stay at a nearby motel.  I said, no way.  This is still your home.

My heart is overflowing with happiness right now!!

Oh my gol, I was a single mom with my son for some years too and I so understand that bond.  There is pretty much nothing to break it!  My son is only 14 but I have told him forever that the best birthday gift is time with him.  It's so true isn't it?!   And since you know the love of the mother son bond I'll bet you'll be a great MIL to Dennis too.  Happy Birthday!

They're here!  They're here!  And we've been having such a great time!!

It's so interesting to see what a change this time has made in my son.  He may have been 19, chronologically, when he left but he was very immature for his age.  Now he's 23 and he really is a MAN.  And he's a man I'm proud of.  He knows what he wants and he doesn't back down on things that matter to him. It's really inspiring.

I really like his partner, Dennis.  In some ways he seems younger than my son although he's 12 years older.  No, not younger--they seem the same age.  But it's interesting because Nic treats Dennis as if he is younger.  But I really like Dennis.  He's very charismatic.

It was difficult coming back to work today but they're headed back to Seattle to shop. I'm taking Friday off to spend with them again.  Nic has promised not to make the time between visits so long again.

We went to Port Townsend yesterday.  There are a lot of antique stores there and Victorian houses.  It's one of my favourite places.  In one antique shop I found a toffee tin with a photo of the royal family on the front.  Queen Elizabeth was about 6 at the time.  I collect things like that but felt it was overpriced so didn't buy it.  They surprised me by buying it for me and hiding it all afternoon.

They kept buying us things and I'm not used to that.  I'm used to spoiling my kids instead of them spoiling me!

Oh Ani, that is so good to hear!  I was wondering when they were coming to visit, so I thank you for letting us know.  How neat that they are buying you things!!  Enjoy!  They wouldn't if they didn't want to, you know?  Give'm a big gay hug for us! And here's to the rest of their visit!

Yea for visiting kids! So glad you are having a wonderful time with him and his partner.  It sounds like you are really enjoying this visit and I can just see you SMILING all the time.

Today is my son's birthday so he came up last night to stay over & visit...or to get his birthday gifts...lol. I have been running like a crazy person the last week and stopped to grab a cake last night. He likes yellow cake and the only one they had was done up like a mummy's head with these plastic blood-shot eyeballs. Very birthday!  LOL

Once we download photos off our respective cameras, I swear Dennis has a camera surgically implanted in one eye!, and I figure out how to use my photobucket account I will share.

They took The Child to a Haunted House last night.  I was happy the three of them went to do something on their own.  The Child was having a bit of a time at first but, while we were all playing pool the other night, Nic was teasing The Child about something.  "You're problem is you don't have any confidence.  You don't have any confidence in making this shot and you don't have any confidence with girls!"

The Child:  "Obviously, you didn't have any confidence with girls either!"

We all cracked up because Nic dated a fair amount before he left home.

Dennis, not in looks, but speech and mannerisms is a bit (not sure how to put this without being offensive) feminine, shall we say.  I find it amusing but The Child had never been around anyone like that before so that was an adjustment.  That's why I was so pleased that the three of them did something together last night without the parents around to soothe matters.

I'm spending the day with the guys tomorrow and Nic is cooking chili for dinner tonight.  I'm really going to miss them when they're gone.  I think I'll miss them more since I finally got to see them!

"The Child"?  Is that Ty?  I'm confused!

Yes, I've always referred to Ty as The Child on any message boards.  I figure he hasn't signed on here so I've tried to protect his identity.  Not that it's a big deal.
