Right now, there are AT LEAST 18 threads on the first page of this forum offering "deals" on books. Most of those threads have zero responses and none have more than two or three. The Bazaar is the proper forum making deals. Can't we please just have discussions on this forum? (I am not trying to slap hands and I'm not addressing this to any one person. I just feel like this forum is pretty useless for discussions and I find that very sad. I love Children's Lit.)

I'm just discovering books by E. L. Konigsburg, such as From the Mixed-up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler, The View from Saturday, and Journey to an 800 Number. Has anyone read these?  Are there more?  Which one(s) did you like best?

My daughter (11) has read  ...Frankweiler, but not the others yet.  Any recommendations?

I am not familiar with any of those books though I at least recognize the name of the author. I'll check them out. Has your daughter read the Anne of Green Gables books? The Secret Garden? Harriet the Spy? These were some of my favorites.

The View From Saturday is good. My daughter liked it a lot. It was one of the book she had to read for our local Battle of the Books competition two years ago.

I have to say that I like having deals listed here.  I get tired of wading through romance, adult fiction, etc. on Book Bazaar when I'm just looking for books for my children.  Could we perhaps start a BOOK DEALS thread and just keep the deals to that?

I agree with "ginaps", I like book deals posted here too. It makes them so much easier to find. I get overwhelemd in the book bazaar too. However, a book deals thread sounds like a great idea.

However, I  wish there were more discussions in this thread too. I love children's lit, as do my boys.

I'm with "ginaps" and "4amigos"!  A childrens book deals thread would be GREAT!

I personally come to the Children's Books Forum for both.  I like getting ideas of what books to look for my daughter.  I appreciate other parent's opinions, but just like any other parent I like a good deal.   When I get online I like to go to one place and find what I'm looking for.  I would really like to see a "bargain bin" forum, where people who have children's books can post their specials.  To be honest, I'd rather get a bargain on my kids books than on my own.  Only because she reads through her books a lot faster than I do.

I agree with the other Stacy B. lol Why not do both? Everything is easier to find in one place.

I come here looking for deals. My one daughter goes through books so fast. I need deals on them. The other thing I also get tired of looking through tons of shelves of adult books in the bazaar. Also things go off so quickly in the bazaar at least here they stay a while. Jean

The problem is, the rules and guidelines specifically say that the Genre Forums should be for discussions and that deals and other offers should only be made on the Bazaar Forum. "We ask that members give thought to the appropriateness of their topic for the forum in which they post. It works best for everyone if questions are posted in Questions About PaperBackSwap, USPS issues are posted in USPS Postal Regulations, games are confined to Games, etc. Topics advertising your bookshelf should NOT be started in any forum but the Book Bazaar. Keeping "deals" and the like confined to the Book Bazaar not only unclutters the other forums, but also allows members who post deals to be sure that their deal is seen, and members who seek deals to find them. We have created enough forums to allow a place for anything our members might like to discuss." Just because the rules get bent because no one is necessarily monitoring this forum doesn't mean that it's okay.

Then I guess the answer would be to start a "Children's book deals" thread on Book Bazaar.

If discussion is what is wanted, then I would suggest a more supportive atmosphere.  I really didn't need a lecture about breaking the rules, I was just offering my opinion.  I don't see so much discussion activity on here that it is disrupted by the deals, but PBS does state that is not what this forum is for, so I would suggest using the Book Bazaar and starting a specific thread and hope people will use it.

PLEASE post deals in the book bazaar!  It's very frustrating to scan through all the deals looking for good discussions and recommendations.   <getting off soapbox now>

We over at the Homeschool forum just went through all this.  We were all looking at the policy and what is allowed on dicussion forums.  Book deals are to be posted on book bizzar.  If people would like to have discussions, where do they go?  In-between all the book deals they get lost.  Myself, I would like to talk about what books we may be reading or what our kids might like.

Right now we are reading the Basil E. Frankweiler book, we like it.

One book that I never see around here is "The Wonderful Flight to the Mushroom Planet".

Good Luck, we pretty much stopped the deals on the other discussion forum.

Just start 1 thread here (Children's forum) for book deals. It looks like every other forum has 1 main thread dedicated to deals, both for giving deals and looking for deals. Just a thought.

I would LOVE to see children's books discussed! I don't have kids but I do like reading this genre myself from time to time and have a friend with a new baby I want to start a collection for and need ideas!

C'mon people quit posting deals and then bumping them...  go to the book bazaar.

Back to Konigsburg...  I really, really like Father's Arcane Daughter!  I recommend it to adults all the time, lol.

I love E.L. Konigsburg. I love the Mixed Up Files, and The View From Saturday, and I also really like Jennifer, Hecate, Macbeth, Willaim Mickinley, and Me, Elizabeth. It's lesser known, but also amazing!

I also love E. L. Konigsburg!  Other authors I've recently discovered:  Gloria Whelan, Patricia Reilly Giff, Andrew Clements.  For fantasy: some of Nancy Farmer, Vivian Vande Velde

I've met Patricia Reilly Giff. She spoke at a bookfair to children about how she writes and how they could be writers too. She was fabulous and so are her books. Pictures of Hollis Woods is a personal favorite of mine. I also LOVE Andrew Clements. I did a book club using 3 of his books with my 4th grade GT students. They really related to his characters.
