Bad Love - Alex Delaware, Bk 8 - Audio Cassette - Abridged
Author: Jonathan Kellerman, John Rubinstein (Narrator)
It came in a plain brown wrapper, no return address -- an audio cassette recording of a horrifying, soul-lacerating scream, followed by the sound of a childlike voice chanting: "Bad love. Bad love. Don't give me the bad love... ". — For Alex Delaware the tape is the first intimation that he is about to enter a living nightmare. Othe...  more »

I am not a real big Kellerman fan, however, in this book he keeps you
interested and trying to fit the clues together before the ending
of the book. worth the read. Earl H. Meldrim, Ga.

I was attracted by the title and by the jacket description. "For Alex Delaware, the tape is the first intimation that he is about to enter a living nightmare. Others soon foolow: disquieting laughter echoing over a phone line that suddenly goes dead, a chilling act of trespass and vandalism. He has become the target of a carefully orchestrated campaign of vague threats and intimidation rapidly building to a crescendo as harassment turns to terror, mischief to madness." Wow, sounds like a great read!

It is...if you're into mystery thrillers. I thought it was just okay.

The story opens with Dr. Alex Delaware becoming involved in a complicated visitation case. He is a child psychologist and a consultant to the LAPD. In the beginning of the book, he receives a frightening tape: someone is screaming and then a child's emotionless voice recites: "bad love" over and over. I was hooked for maybe 2/3 of the book but then certain things didn't add up. When they don't add up and when they don't seem real, I become annoyed with the story. I felt Dr. Delaware was too intrusive into people's lives and toward the end he was downright whiny.

There was one teeny little clue as to the perpertrator. It didn't "feel" right to me. Maybe it's the mystery thriller genre thing...

Hopefully the next Dr. Delaware book I read won't leave me feeling as let down

From 1994, this is a pivotal Alex Delaware adventure. The villian is nasty, and isn't revealed until it's almost too late. Alex's original abode burns (leading to later reconstruction), and Robin adopts her familiar (to readers of more recent entries) pooch. Det. Milo Sturgis stars, without personal issues in this one. All in all, a good solid read that fills in some blanks for those of us who started this series at the wrong end! Four Stars.

How many of you out there reading this are fans of Alex Delaware and Milo Sturgis - c'mon, let's see some hands! It goes without saying, I am! I realize that some of you, don't know Alex and Milo from Milo and Stitch, but I think this book will draw you into the adventure/mystery zone so that you will want to seek out and GET other Jonathan Kellerman books!

This particular novel starts out innocently enough - the postman delivers a package to Alex, who, like many of us in PBS thinks is a textbook that he forgot ordering (sound familiar?), anyway he opens the package to find not a book, but an audio cassette. Playing the cassette, he hears screaming and an emotionless voice of a child chanting "Bad Love, Bad Love, don't give me the Bad Love". Pretty creepy huh? Alex shrugs it off as a prank, and so does Milo, but when the "pranks" turn violent, the dynamic duo must figure out who is behind it, before they (whoever they are) decide to finish the game - permanently! You're off an another mystery!!!!

As in most Jonathan Kellerman books, he does an excellent job of presenting a rich cast of characters, intelligent, believable story lines, and just the proper mix of suspence, drama, and comedic relief.
All designed to keep you wanting more - more!

This particular book/audio is an excellent study of the psychology of the psychotic (did that make sense?) You'll find yourself straining at-the-bit to find out who is committing all the murders, and more importantly, WHY! It's like Kellerman includes you in the quest!

If you're familiar with Kellerman's writings, you know that he gives detailed descriptions of his characters and their locations. Well, to be honest with you, I think he went a little overboard this time - I mean he describes EVERYTHING, to an exacting detail. If I see a Hot Dog, I know it's a hot dog, I don't really have to know everything thats in it!!!! I wouldn't feel right putting mustard and relish on a "tubular processed meat by-product", would you?

One NEW thing has crept into the Delaware series - a cute little stray dog - Spike !!!!

If you've read Kellerman before, you know what you're getting here - if you haven't, you might be opening up the door to a whole new world of adventures - Alex Delaware/Milo Sturgis - the modern day Holmes/Watson!

I think you'll like it!
