This is a great series. I read them out of order and this is the 1st. Only have 2 more to go....the last 2. This is Christian & Natasha's story. He is haunted by his tortured past & she is blind to the only person she sees as a father figure. Lots of danger and suspense with lots of steam.....Great author.

The Bane Affair introduces the first of 5 men chosen by patriot Hank Smithson to form the Smithson Group, aka SG-5. Hank believed in serving country, but was frustrated by the rules and regs that tied the hands of gov't depts and agencies. He rescued Christian Bane at a time when the US gov't would not. In The Bane Affair, Christian goes undercover to stop a treasonous act. What sets it apart from other romantic suspense novels? Alison Kent's flair for the unexpected, her incredible subtlety in foreshadowing, her economy with words. The Bane Affair is 307 trade paperback pages long but you won't find any fluff. No unnecessary narrative or dialog. And just when you think you know what's coming next, Kent ups the ante. For instance, throughout the book, Christian won't allow Natasha to see his naked body in a lighted room. As a reader, you know he's been to hell and back and you expect lots of ugly scars when he reveals himself to her. Oh yeah, there are lots of scars... but you won't believe how they got there.
