An interesting oral history of the 517th, an orphan regiment not assigned to any parachute division. Eight of the men in this regiment eventually went on to become generals in the U.S. Army, with two of them beginning their careers as privates.

It is considered "oral history" due to the fact that most of the text is composed of statement by the men who served in the unit, which help flesh out the training and operational history of the unit. A nice touch, as seen in many such books, is a final chapter listing what these men did after the war.
