This collection of King short stories (many of which were published previously elsewhere) is uneven, as most collections are, and also more varied than I expected. Several of the tales are not horror at all but "literary" shorts, well observed and nicely written slice-of-life pieces, and these are the entries I liked best. The rest were more typical, but all showed King's craftsmanlike approach. I particularly liked the brief prologues he included for each story, providing a glimpse of how and why the story ideas developed.
