Search - The Becoming (Anna Strong Chronicles, Bk 1)

It wasn't a bad story but it was most definately not the best of its type out there.

Anna is what is becoming the stereotypical strong female turned into something she didn't really want to be but dealing with it in the best way she can. But other variants of that type are more engaging. I just couldn't ever really sympathize with her as much as I would have liked to.

And worst of all for me every plot twist and device was telegraphed a mile away. You have to wonder how someone who is supposed to be a smart savvy bounty hunter can be so blind to the obvious.

Still overall its a decent read but if I had it to do over it would be a used/PBS purchase or library checkout rather than a full price purchase.

Just couldn't get in to it. The style of writing just really bugged me.

Not very original, and more than a little predictable. The 1st person, present tense helps make it a fast read, but wears thin halfway through the book. I found myself far more interested in the possibilities and minor characters than I was in Anna, though I'm going to try the second book to see if it improves. Or if characters I actually like get some page time.

Really enjoyed this book. It's a new series for me, and I read the 1st 3 books in three days. Highly recommend this author, and other reviews which suggest a combination of Charlaine Harris and Laurell Hamilton are correct, although, thank heaven, sex is not nearly as graphic as LH's most recent.

So yes, the story was alright, for the first book in the series. Most firsts have a ways to go. The dialogue needs some work and the outcome was predictable. I would recommend it to someone who doesn't read as much as I do, or doesn't expect much from vampire books. I give it 3 stars because 1) I finished it, 2) 'Casper' intrigues me, and 3) I want to find out how she stumbles about being a vampire on her own without the help of the vanquished Avery. I'm hoping the next book is better than the first. I'm going to giving the next a try.
