3 books that I received today, all from different parts of the country, had DC on them. All 3 had been scanned along their way to me. BUT somehere along the way someone took a pen and put a line through the bar code, rendering it unreadable and so it wasn't scanned as delivered to me! Anyone else noticing this happening to their books?

Can you tell if there was enough postage applied to include the DC? If they find that the .19 was not paid for they might void the DC instead of delivering it postage due. There are also some unintelligent USPS employees out there that just don't understand eDC and think its not valid so they VOID it.

If you had the time and ambition I'd take them in to the PO and ask them why a valid eDC is being tampered with.  The authorization information is right on under the code so they should be able to tell that it is valid.  By doing that, they are not providing the service they have been paid for (the Delivery Confirmation) and should be refunding the postage paid for it.

was it an ink pen or a highlighter?  the PO's are supposed to highlight the barcode when it is scanned "arrival at unit" yellow and put a pink line through the barcode if it is scanned "attempted"  The delivery scan will not show up until after the carrier finishes his'her route and gets back to the office and "cradles" the scanner.  some carriers WILL line through the barcode with a pen when it is scanned "delivered"

I have never received a book with the DC lined thru. And I order books every week. Are they really supposed to be doing this? They don't appear to do it in my area.

If it is a green retail DC. We do it at our office and the managers make a big deal about it. I dont know if it is just our district or nationwide. If it is one that is integrated into the label, we dont do it.

I've noticed it many times on the green DC but not the one bought through Paypal or PBS.

Don't recall receiving any electronic DC with lines through.

What Melanie said, if you have time I'd question your PO regarding who voided the DC (especially if it waspaid for and never scanned as delivered).
