Ok, so I guess I don't understand the importance of having friends. Do you get your books faster? I guess I am very impatient and I hate waiting on someone to wait until the last minute to accept the request and then the take over a week to mail it. Is there a way to pick a person who has been active recently? And if anyone could point me in the right directions on a list of abbreviations that would be AMAZING! It took me forever to figure out what FIFO meant. Thanks for all the help

I've only ever gotten one WL book quicker cause I was friends with the poster. But I have received some 'gifts' of books cause I am active in the Raok thread-- that's where many of my friends come from.

Here is a link for the PBS Glossary which contains the abbreviations.

http://www.paperbackswap.com/help/help_item.php?id=217

In case you have trouble with the link, here is where you can find it.

In the Help Center:

Under "The PBS Community"

Click "The Discussion Forum", then under that

Click "What are the Discussion Forums?" and under that

Click "Related Items" and

The Glossary is 3rd one down.

Hope this helps.

Pam

I like to choose someone off of my Friends list when I'm posting WL books.  Some of my Friends do the same for me to return the favor.

Is there a way to know if a certain WL'd book is on a friends list, other than scrolling through each friends entire list? Or maybe that's an exclusive feature of the Standard membership?

I probably get at least 50% of my Wish List books posted directly to me by Friends and I will always post WL books to my Friends over going FIFO because they tend to be active members who will either accept or decline right away. My Friends tend to be people that I "met" thru swaps and we started talking about the swapped book or other authors in the same vein, etc. Sometimes I have realized that I am requesting books from the same person repeatedly because they are posting books on my WL or Reminder list so I send them a Friend request. Having PBS Friends has really enriched my experience here as well as helping me to get some books slightly faster.

Pam- Thank you so much for that link. I swear I looked all over for a list of all the abbreviations, and it was nice to have what the icons mean as well.

Janet- I don't know how to see if a book is on a friends WL, without just searching through it. If someone knows an easier way, let us know. I'm really hoping its not a standard membership feature

Sally- That makes sense, I guess I need to get some more friends.

From looking at some other posts I did change my friends accept to automatic, so whoever reads this and wants to be friends I'm all set to accept.

Janet - I have not seen a new search feature for friends' wishlists, yet, like we can use for their bookshelves.  Are you able to search bookshelves of your friends with the limited membership?  For the wishlist, people are still suggesting to pretend to post books and see if the post to friend feature pops up.  Does that work for limited membership, too?

When you go to post the book, it will tell you if the book is on any of your Friends' WLs.  It'll actually give you a drop-down list of them.  So, just hit "post this book" from the book's page or enter the ISBN into the Post Books page.  You don't actually have to go thru with posting the book but at least you can see which of your Friends are wishing for the book.

Sarah, is this a feature for Standard members only?  I've never noticed it before...

I just saw this http://www.paperbackswap.com/How-See-Friends-WL-Books/topic/301254/  so unfortunately it looks like it is a feature of standard membership. :(

Sorry, I didn't realize that was only a perk of standard memberships.  I was Gold Key before this so I'm used to looking that way.

Okay, guess you'd have to look at individual WLs then to see who's wishing.  How about this to make it easier.  Use the Personal Note feature to put a virtual sticky note on books you have that are WL.  Then, when you pull up another member's WL, it's easy to scroll thru it and look for that sticky note on the book covers.  Don't even have to see what they are, the virtual sticky note stands out.  And, it's a note only you will see.

Have to laugh...I posted above that I always  post books to PBS Friends over FIFO and wee doggies, have I ever gotten the friends requests since doing so! So that is apparently a good way to make PBS Friends!
