When a valuable agent behind the Iron Curtain signals he wants out, it's up to Bernard Samson, once active in the field but now anchored to a London desk, to undertake the crucial rescue. But soon, Samson is confronted with evidence that there is a traitor among his colleagues. And to find out who it is, he must sift through layers of lies and follow a web of treachery from London to Berlin until hero and traitor collide.

Very enjoyable spy novel. The main character is more common joe than james bond. I recommend the whole series.

Deighton at his "English" best. Good insight into what makes people tick...

Game, Set, Match find Bernard Samson in espinoge intrigue and so many twists and turns you might want to read all three in succession to keep track of the players. A great read, I recently reread the set. Was a PBS series.

One of Britain's most reliable and valuable agents behind the Iron Curtain is urgently demanding safe passage to the West. It was fallen to Bernard Samson, himself once active in the field, to undertake the resuce. But before Bernard leaves London, he discovers there is a traitor amoung his colleagues--planted by Moscow.
