I always look forward to the annual release of "The Best American Magazine Writing" collections. Susan Orlean selected these, the best of 2004, which includes a thoughtful piece by Tucker Carlson (who knew?) about a trip he took to Africa with Al Sharpton; the delicious "Housewife Confidential" by Caitlin Flanigan and Calvin Trillin's profile of journalist R. W. Apple.

Only read a couple stories from this one. But it's pretty hard to go wrong with the Best American series. I'm more a fan of the 'Nonrequired Reading'.
