Root, root, root for the home team! Yay!
We (Mom and I) had the best IEP meeting for my grandson, ever! Now, I'm not just saying it. I really mean it. My grandson is 11, just entered 6th grade and into a new school. It's a new MAST school. Maybe that's why. The school is fairly new in Miami, Florida. It specializes in Math, Science and technology. I just want you to know. It can be done! I I've been going to IEP meeting for close to 25 years, because this is my second generation. My experiences have ranged from mildly disturbing to being a nightmare! My son was in ESE classes and is now an adult. Now it's my grandson. They are both on the spectrum. (My grandson is my daughter's child). The school offerred a revised IEP the first thing this school year when my grandson was accepted at the school last Spring. (I had contacted them in the spring to introduce myself.). I certainly wanted this. It was very appropriate now that he was in 6th grade and in a new school. The teacher/ESE representative was prepared with a revised IEP. It was streamlined and practical. We went over it and tweaked it a bit till we all liked it. We weren't barraged by several people. There was just us and the teacher. The meeting was personal and quiet and casual. The teacher was freindly and efficient. Most of all my grandson got his needs met. What more could one ask for.
I applaude this teacher!
