If I could give this book more than 5 stars I would. This is not for Christians who want to remain in their little, fictional world. A challenging, growth-forcing book, Beyond the Suffering uses the true accounts of some of the most down-trodden of all Americans to lead us to following Christ anywhere and anyhow. Bereft of even their names and the right to their own bodies many American slaves found Christ wondrously real and enabling - a message that todays Americans, todays whole world, needs.
