I mailed two books yesterday and totally forgot to put postage on them. Do you think the post office will return them to me for postage due??

Yes, assuming you used your own return address.

Though interestingly, I did once receive a book delivered in the mail without postage.  I wonder if the P.O. mistook the "place postage here" box as a pre-printed postage label at a glance.  Or maybe they were just too lazy to mark it postage due :p

If you sent them media mail, they may not be returned to you.  They may get to the receiver with postage due instead, which they will have to pay in order to receive the books.  You might want to give them a heads-up that this might happen, or that the books may be delayed, in the event that they are returned to you.

I also was going to suggest that you PM the receivers and let them know what happened and that they might arrive postage due...and if it were me, I would assure them that if they do arrive postage due that I would return their credit to them.

They might ship them 1st class with 1st class postage due. Instead of back to you.

If you are in a moderately small town with only a few media mail pkgs' going out they may still be in the PO. Have you tried talking w/ your PO to see if they can pull them for you. Believe it or not PO Workers are people too.

I've received 3 since I joined with no postage...and no postage due. I've also sent one in error without (to England for a different swapping site)!  I thought my carrier would return that one the next day, and asked him to ring the bell since I had the postage ready on the kitchen counter, lol,...with the multipart customs form, they had to look at it - but it never came back, and was delivered to the person without postage. I'd think with the new rates, they might be looking more closely right now though...so I second the heads up to your recipients.
