I think I know what a cleaved binding is, but what if you open the front, and you can see a bit of, I'm not sure what, glue? it seems that the book I have has this in both front and back covers, and I suspect it was there from the beginning. Postable?

It is a larger PB in very good condition.

I just bought a new hard cover and it had the same but only for the front cover.  Since I am the only owner, I know this was how the book was made.  I am going to post it.  The book doesn't fall open to the first page and it doesn't interfere with reading.  It's a WL book with a few hundred people waiting for it.

There's a link in this thread to some good images of a cleaved binding (not to mention some racy text of cleavage) :-)  http://www.paperbackswap.com/forum/topic.php?t=104069

Cheers,

Catt

Ai chihuahua!  Racy is an understatement!

Now, can someone tell me where it says that broken or cleaved spines are an unpostable?  I thought that was the case, but I just received one that is cleaved and I can't for the life of me find it.

The official guidelines don't use the word "cleaved".  You might want to look at this thread: http://www.paperbackswap.com/forum/topic.php?t=105593

The guidelines do state:

Binding:

  • Must be intact, with no separation on the inside or outside of the book
  • If the book tends to open at a particular page, this is OKAY
  • Small amount of fraying or denting at top or bottom is OKAY

Cheers,

Catt
