I know it seems to be a no-brainer but my very literal mind is turning around the phrase: "Binding is intact and not separated on the inside or outside of the book"

I just realized that a previous Library Copy had once had a break in the spine.  It has been fixed with clear tape. The rest of the book is in wonderful shape, much better than some books that I have received.   It opens up some at this spot obviously because the spine is taped and not in it's original glued state but for anyone realizing these are used books this book would be in great shape.

So, can I post this book?

The binding is CURRENTLY NOT separated...... it is taped closed.

Or should it not be posted because it once was separated?

The rest of the spine is beautifully broken in, flips smoothly and is super tight.

If this is a gray area could I PM the requestor and describe the situation before mailing the book, or should it just not be posted?

Advice (and likely discussion) welcome.  :)

I believe the general consensus is that tape can not return an unpostable book to a postable state. Therefore, your book sounds unpostable to me.

You can however offer it as an unpostable in the Book Bazaar, describing the damage, and even ask for a credit.

However, if someone taped the spine to reinforce it, but the spine was not already damaged, that would be postable.

You should never post a book FIFO and then have to PM the requestor about its condition to see if it's acceptable to them.  If the tape is necessary to keep the book from splitting in two, then I wouldn't consider it postable.

You can post about it in the Book Bazaar and describe the condition and ask for a credit for it.  If it's not a WL book though, I doubt someone'd pay a credit for it.

I think when I cancled the order it pulled the book out of my available books to swap.   I feel horrible that I didn't notice something so obvious before I posted it.

Can you help me with Acronyms?

What do the following stand for?

FIFO

WL

And now I am off to try to find Book Bazaar since this book is in great shape minus that taped crack and it seems to be a coveted book.

It is well within the rules to do this for highlighting or underlining. It is not okay to do this for any other kind of damage, including broken and repaired spines.

FIFO = first in, first out - when you post a book to your bookshelf and not directly to a friend

WL = Wish Listed - if people can get a postable copy for one credit without waiting, it is less likely that someone will pay one credit for an unpostable copy.

Others will offer unpostables that are not wishlisted for free with any order from their bookshelf.

I'm back.

Can someone give me a link or information about where Book Bazaar is and how credits are given?  I am not seeing it here at PBS and googling Book Bazaar is bringing up a ton of options.   Thanks.

FIFO  -  First In, First Out   [How books move through the lines in the system.]

WL -  Wish List

Book Bazaar Forum - http://www.paperbackswap.com/Book-Bazaar/forum/58/

As for credits, I'm not sure what you're asking.  Do you mean credits earned from normal swapping or buying them from the bazaar or PBS?

Thank you for the help, everyone.

The book is off my PBS list and i will go check out Book Bazaar tomorrow.

In regards to the credits, I was responding to what someone had said:

You can however offer it as an unpostable in the Book Bazaar, describing the damage, and even ask for a credit.

I am sure it will be more clear tomorrow when I go to look at Book Bazaar.

Thank you everyone for the information and heads up.  :)
