This book was completely awesome. The first 30 pages or so were a bore, but gave you a lot of needed info.
Thomas Hunter has a special gift. When he falls asleep in one world, he wakes up in the next. At first, everything is great until he learns information that changes reality as it is. What he does in one world can effect what happens in another. Ted Dekker wrote an amazing book. I love it!
Fantastic Book! Read it in 3 days. One of those books that once you start reading you can't stop and can't think abut anything except getting back to reading it. A modern day thriller, page turner from the first page to the next book in the series!! Another great Ted Dekker success.
I could not put this book down, sadly I finished it yesterday :(
Sad only because I am waiting for the next two to complete the trilogy.
This is the first book of Ted Dekker I have read, and it blew me away!
I have since ordered every available book he has.
A fantastic story teller! Leaves you wanting more!!!
If you have never read any Ted Dekker books you are missing out. I have read the majority of all of his books but, this series is the best! It is fun, suspenseful, and it plays out the Christian faith in so many ways that it is amazing. Truly inspired :)
This story was a little tricky to follow in the beginning, as the author presents two parallel story lines and the reader is not sure at first which is real and which is (perhaps) a dream. But before long, the reader finds himself caught up in this world of double-realities and the situations the main character finds himself in. Not surprisingly, then end of the book leaves you hanging and clamouring for the sequel, Red.
Was not sure at first if I would like this book, but once I started into it I could not seem to pull myself away from it. I am glad that all of the series is already published so that I do not have to wait to read the next in line.
This Christian suspense-thriller was very different than most other Christian Fiction I have read. The storyline was less obvious on the Christian theme and the 'other world' was very sci-fi like that I did not relate to it enough to believe there was a confusion as to which world was real and which was dream. It was not engaging enough for me to search out the next two books. If they fall into my possession, I will read them but I will not hunt them down or purchase them. I am a sci-fi/fantasy fan and want to believe in the reality of the world I am reading about . . . without that commitment to the rea-ness or believable-ness, a story is not captivating for me.
Oh wow! This book reminds me of the Chronicles of Narnia, just more action and suspense. The parallel realities are exhausting to keep up with, but you just have to see what happens next! I cannot wait to read the next one in the series, anyone done with Red yet?
A friend recommended this series to me. I found this first installment difficult to get through. Every time something important was developing, I felt like that was when the book would flip realities. There was just way too much random stuff thrown in. All the garbage about martial arts was boring and didn't add to the story. I found all of the romance elements boring and forced... Blech. Should be labeled YA, not sure why it isn't.
Wonderful book. Ted Dekker keeps you on the edge of your seat wondering what is going to happen next. After reading the Circle Trilogy, I immediately ordered a set for my daughter, then sent my set to my other daughter. Both loved the series. Ted Dekker has never disappointed me with any of his books. I would recommend this author to everyone.
This trilogy by Ted Dekker is awesome! Like all his books, this first book of the trilogy is a page-turner--hard to put down. I began reading this trilogy with the third book, "White," and I still like it the best. But this one gives the history of Tom's alternate reality world. I love the way Tom's alternate reality draws such a great picture of true spiritual reality as revealed in the Bible. His books give me a more vivid understanding of spiritual truth.
Thomas Hunter lives in one world and dreams of another world, but which one is the dream? And maybe both worlds are real. This is a fast paced story which is well written. The metaphor Dekker weaves between Thomas' world and ours is clear, but not overstated. There are also great descriptions of God's love and Satan's deception and evil, making you think and stretching your imagination. Have the next book of the trilogy on your night stand, because you'll want to pick up with "Red", where "Black" leaves off.
It took me a bit to get into this story (Book 1) but after that I was hooked. I read the trilogy and it was well worth the time. This was unlike anything I have ever read and the story is (to keep it really general here) is about Good and Evil between 2 worlds and one man. Teaser....You have to drown to be good and the evil ones smell but think they are fine...that is all I can type..it is just a gem of a Trilogy and it is personally one of my favorites of all time.
