A beautiful young woman is dead in the bathroom of her home. Her husband-a promising young cop named Archie Wildcraft-is shot in the head, but still alive. It looks like a murder/suicide, but something tells Detective Merci Rayborn there's more to the story. When the suspect vanishes from his hospital bed, he draws Merci into a manhunt that leaves the entire department questioning her abilities and her judgement. Is Archie's flight the act of a ruined mind, or a faithful heart? Is his account of the night his wife was murdered half-formed memory, or careful manipulation? Merci and Wildcraft head for a collision in a dizzying succession of cryptic clues, dangerous secrets, and painful truths.

This is the 3rd in a series. It is a real page turner. T. Jefferson Parker is another James Patterson or Michael Connelly. If you like them you will like T. Jeff.!

Merci Rayburn returns! One great thing about T. Jefferson Parker is his creativity... Unlike many other mystery writers, he rarely stays with the same characters from novel to novel - with the exception of female homicide dick Merci Rayborn. Although I would like to read the further adventures of "Silent" Joe Trona, having a third Merci novel is acceptable, too. ;-)

I recently discovered this author and am working my way through his books. I just finished Red Light. Black Water features many of the same characters in Red Light. Black Water is a real page turner - I can't wait to finish it and am looking forward to ordering more books by T. Jefferson Parker.
