Jed Blackstone, a half-breed drifter, who at 25, is living life to the fullest is on his way to help save his half-brother, George Dulah's farm.

But he knew something Sam Stanfield did not know. Stanfield was hell-bent on owning all of Foggy Valley. Sam had driven Jed out of Foggy Valley for triffling with his daughter, Vera.
And branded Jed to boot. Neither knowing that Vera had been playing around with most of the men of the Valley already.

When Jed hit Dexter's Cut, he was set upon by Alaska and his cronies. Alaska being the son of a Miller woman. The whole Miller clan wanted Devin's Hill where there was supposed to be gold, somewhere.
Luckily for Eleanor Miller, her husband blew himself up. [couldn't have happened to a nicer guy!]

The Miller clan decreed that one of the men had to marry up with Devin's widow, Ely Nora. All she wanted to do was leave.
Eleanor has been reduced to talking to her hens. What a shock when Jed showed up in very bad shape.

If she saved him, he could help her escape her in-laws. [what has followed is some of the neatest dialoge]
This tale takes you through a neat love story involving a 27 year old widow who had been a school teacher and a 25 year old drifter who is improving his education by reading the encyclopedia and dictionaries that he finds in libraries.
