The pitfalls of ownership, or how not to build a country manor. This novel (subsequently made into a movie) fills in the details of Hart and Kaufmans 1940 play, George Washington Slept Here. Although narrated with some wit, it fails to reach the biting sarcasm of Hart and Kaufman. Nevertheless, it has its moments. For those not conversant with any of these, you might remember a sort of update called The Money Pit starring Tom Hanks and Shelly Long. Difficult to find today, but definitely worth the trouble to seek.
