I know my title is a little odd. Anyway, I thoroughly enjoyed Bliss. It was the second book I read by Pina. The first was "Chasing Sophea" which I would also recommend. Bliss is very empowering to women in an Alice Walker nature. The book is set in several different time periods which are noted so there is no confusion to the reader. Despite some "heavy" (emotional) themes in the story, I found it hard to put down. I dont want to give too much away. The plot revolves around a young African American girl Teeny, who lives with her parents, brother as well as a generous aunt who fosters in her the desire and drive to play the violin despite ridicule received by her parents and brother. Bliss makes the reader question the deep value of family and the meaning of sacrifices people do for the ones they love. I have no negative critique and await the next novel by the author.
