Wherever this book originated from, it appears to have a discount sticker on the front of it, like it came from a Dollar Tree or Dollar General Store. No matter. This novel about an artist taking a year to paint at Radcliffe, her married lover, and the two women she befriends during her sabbatical, is mesmerizing. The way the author describes the paintings that Honora is working on, you can see them in your mind but I still wished for reproductions. There are some graphic sexual scenes in the book, but since the color red and Honora's paintings are meant to represent desire, the descriptions are not superfluous. I received this book in the mail after a long day of work and then a night class and only meant to read for a few minutes. I ended up staying up past 11 to read. The story just pulled me and wouldn't let go.
