Good read. Of course, as a former Marine I'm biased.

I can understand him not writing much about the southern Okinawan campaign. If ever there was a charnel house, that was it. What our servicemen had to go through there was unbelievable.

At the same time, as is often encountered in many memoirs written years afterward, you have to wonder at the author's remembrance of conversations many decades ago. That's not to say their memories aren't accurate. I can still remember conversations I had 50 or more years ago. But to remember everything?
