This is the first in a series of paranormal romances. The main character is a small-town female police officer named Jessie McQuade. A woman is badly injured when she hits a wolf with her SUV, and McQuade is sent to investigate. She follows the trail of a wolf and finds a gorgeous naked man. Are things about to get hairy?*

I am picky about romance novels, but this one satisfied my criteria. There are a lot of things I liked about it.
1) The heroine is smart. She has common sense and she calls for backup when appropriate.
2) Her love interest is a caring, mature person. Specifically, he appreciates the heroine for more than just her body. Also, although there is some sexy R-rated wrestling, he never pushes past what she's willing to give him.
3) I didn't care that I could see where the plot was going. Most romances are a bit predictable. That's okay, as long as they're good enough that you don't mind, and in this case I didn't. I knew who Jessie was going to end up with, but I really wanted to know how it would happen and what they would say to each other and how they would (inevitably) foil the bad guys.
4) Who the bad guys are and what their deal is remains a mystery up until the end.

I enjoyed this book and I will be looking up more of Ms. Handeland's work. Recommended for all fans of love stories with bite!* Four stars.

*Sorry, guys. I tried hard but I couldn't resist.

Other than the Anne Rice Vampire chronicles I have never really gotten into supernatural fiction, and I don't think I've ever read a romance novel. So I didn't have high expectations for this book, but I was very surprised at how much I liked the book.

Mrs. Handeland really has something with this book. I was instantly captivated by the action that takes place at the beginning of the book. The main character, Jessie, was very relatable. I could see myself in her shoes and her thoughts and dialogue was something I could hear coming out of my mouth.

As the story progresses you begin to share the doubt that Jessie has and as new bits of the story come together I found myself trying to figure out who was the Wolf God.

Overall I think this was very well written and I will defiantly be getting the next book in the series. The only reason that I didn't give it a 5-star rating is that I don't see this book as being something that I would re-read. But I did like it and found myself for a few nights reading until I couldn't keep my eyes open, simply because I didn't want to put this one down.

This was a great book. The heroine was a wonderful, sarcastic, strong woman. I laughed out loud about every other page. The sexual tension was hot but did not detract from the main story as it raced on. Awesome book if you like lycanthrope stories.

I'll start off by saying this, Jessie McQuade is not your typical heroine. She is rough, crude, sarcastic, tomboyish, pervy and often annoying. All qualities that put me off to her from the get go, yet somehow besides all that you grow to accept her as the far from perfect woman she is. I can't say you grow to like her but you get used to her and appreciate how real she is, for me this appreciation came with her frequent pervy thoughts that often had me laughing. Yes girls have them too guys!!!!
Anyway, the story is set in a small town, and the book does a great job of maintaining that small town feel, often from the descriptions and just the "simple" train of thought shared through the characters. Our story begins when a routine traffic accident leads to a wolf bite which spreads a special strain of rabies throughout the town, a strain that turns people into crazy murders within 24hrs. Now if anyone has any common sense they will note that rabies don't do this but remember this is a small town...lol. Jessie eventually puts two and two together and realizes that these are not your average wolves. Werewolves anyone?
Oh! I almost forgot to mention that the day of the traffic accident she runs into a hot naked man in the woods named Will. Her investigation of the wolves eventually leads her back to this mysterious naked man and Chemistry ensues. Yes people this is a romance mystery but do not fear it’s not sappy and it’s packed full with unintended/intended comedy to keep, well me, interested. There is obvious attraction between the two but the pursuit of a relationship is halted by.
1. The fact that he is way hotter than her and a known playboy therefore he can’t be serious
2. Her insecurities about herself and her uncertainty in her ability to love.
3. She thinks he’s a werewolf trying to kill her, even though he constantly says he isn’t.
Regardless sexual attraction is mighty powerful and they do hook up. Yeah! (BTW Will can be mighty innocent and cute besides his manly powers and perfect physique). Back to the mystery part of the novel, Jessie learns that there is a master wolf who is turning everyone in the town into werewolves in order to build a werewolve army and take over the world…Jessie has to find the bad guy by the next blue moon or disaster will ensue. This part of the book is rather fun and will keep you guessing almost till the end.
Overall, the book was written well, the mystery is intriguing and simple, the romance is realistic-ish and steamy…a definite page turner. The reason I can’t give it a higher rating is because I don’t feel that you can take anything away from this novel and it doesn’t really leave you wanting…. Its just over and you’re o.k. with that.
