Hannah Swensen is in the process of baking up a storm at the shop she owns, The Cookie Jar in preparation for Lake Eden, Minnesota's Winter Carnival. Connie Mac the star of a very popular cooking show requests the use of her kitchen for baking the official Winter Carnival cake.
Connie Mac is very manipulative and bad tempered in real life. She has many people who are very outspoken in their dislike for her. She is found dead in The Cookie Jar the morning after she was to have baked the cake and the shop is closed as a crime scene. This leaves Hannah in a fix as she has promised to bake cookies for many of the winter display and warm up tents. She needs to solve this crime as soon as possible.

3 out of 5

This one didn't hold the same appeal for me that the previous two did.

Connie MacIntyre, Connie Mac to her friends, a Martha Stewart type character, isn't the sweetheart that she pretends to be and when Connie is found dead in Hannah's pantry next to Hannah's Blueberry Muffins what's Hannah to do. She needs her kitchen back so she can finish baking for the Lake Edna Winter Carnival so Hannah doesn't want any other enterprising baker would do, she sets out to solve the crime.

Quite a lot of goings on in this book that take away from the main story and who-done- it was such a secondary character that you had to remind yourself of who-was-that-person-again.

In this book you learn a little bit more about Andrea, who turns out to be quite funny in her own scatterbrained way and poor Hannah just can't decide who her love interest will be, the cop or the dentist. One actually makes the decision easier for her, but Hannah really doesn't take no for an answer, especially when one is the man of her evening dreams and the other is the man for her day dreams.
Even though this book didn't have a very good flow, I will continue on to the next book.

This was another wonderful read, I could not put the book down. The town of Lake Eden is preparing for the winter carnival that they have each year and this year is especially special because they are having a celebrity chef joining in their festivites, Connie Mac. They consider her televisions cooking sweetheart and the mayor and other businesses want to please the pain in the rear end.

The mayor asks Hannah if she would give Mrs. Mac a tour of Lake Eden as she has requested Hannah to be the one to give her the official tour. Hannah agrees to keep the mayor happy and she is sorry she accepted the task. She sees first hand how rude this cooking "sweetheart" treats and manipulates everyone. Hannah learns that her best friend from childhood (Janie) is the stars personal assistant and she feels sorry for her, and anyone else that has to work with her.

After her encounter with Connie she is glad to go back to the Cookie Jar to be able to be away from the wicked with of the west. But it is short lived as Janie calls her at the store to ask her a huge favor, Connie's delivery truck that was carrying the carnival cake had crashed and was ruined. She needed to use a commercial kitchen to make a new cake in time for the winter carnival. Hannah agrees only because she doesn't want the star to take out her anger of rejection on her assistant.

The next day the star is found murdered and there is a long list of possible suspects including her childhood friend. Hannah knows that Janie didn't do it and she wants to clear her friends name. The book takes some twists and turns with more secrets and lies. It didn't take long to figure out who the murderer was but was still fun to read. I was glad to have been done with Connie Mac after a few pages, she's someone that you would just want to slap silly.

The whole is the sister pregnant thing got annoying, you would think after already having one child she would have figured out that she was pregnant with child number two or at least take a pregnancy test just to shut Hannah up after being told repeadedly that she was. The only other flaw of the book is that the author really needs to have Hannah just pick a guy already, she keeps going back and forth. The author really needs to make the relationship between either Norman or Mike stick and be more adult and not so juvenile. I hope in the next book she has Hannah pick one already or kill one of them off, SOMETHING!

Overall, great read! The blueberry muffin recipe and the grilled cheese recipe sounded yummy, I can't wait to try them, yum!

Another in the series featuring bakery owner Hannah Swenson in Lake Eden Minnesota. Lake Eden is getting ready for the Winter Carnival and Hannah is baking up a storm when the star of a cable TV cooking show is found dead in her pantry. Of course the police close her shop down since it is a crime scene so in order to get back to baking for the carnival, Hannah has to solve the crime in a hurry.

Preparations are underway for Lake Eden, Missesota's annual Winter Carnival -- and Hannah Swensen is set to bake up a storm at her popular shop, The Cookie Jar. Too bad the honor of creating the official Winter Carnival cake went to famous lifestyle maven Connie Mac -- a half baked idea, in Hannah's opiniion. She suspects Connie Mac is a lot like the confections she whips up on her cable TV cooking show -- sweet, light, and scrumptious-looking, but likely to leave a bitter taste in your mouth.

In her third top-of-the-line culinary cozy (after 2001's Strawberry Shortcake Murder), the delightful amateur sleuth Hannah Swensen once again faces murder and mayhem with good cheer. To fight the late February doldrums, Lake Eden, Minn., is about to celebrate its first winter carnival with ice sports on the lake, activities for children and Hannah's delicious cookies from her shop, the Cookie Jar. The whole town is involved, and even Hannah's mother, who usually spends her time trying to get Hannah married, has found a new interest in recreating the home of one of Lake Eden's founding fathers. Connie MacIntyre, bestselling cook book author and star of a popular cable TV cooking show, has agreed to make the cake for the carnival banquet. But when Hannah discovers Connie's dead body in the pantry of the Cookie Jar, Hannah and her sister Andrea join forces to track down the killer, despite warnings by one of her boyfriends, policeman Mike Kensington, to stay out of the investigation. Since everyone who had contact with the abusive Connie disliked her, the sisters have plenty of suspects.
