Lakin's writing style is an easy one, and the setting is one you don't find in a British mystery too often. There is a plot twist at the end, as well as a bit of espionage and romance thrown in. The denouement is a bit convoluted and confusing, but on the whole it was an enjoyable read that evoked a time and place for me.
