Live Help should give you the same suggestion, really.  The only way an active transaction like that can be canceled is by notifying PBS.  The Sender will have to send them the message, because as the Sender she's the only one who can say with reliable certainty that the book was never sent.  If the book goes lost it does reflect on the Post Office and the relationship between PBS and the USPS, so asking the Sender to notify PBS is the right thing to do.  She should use the "Send Us Feedback" button found onthe "Contact Us" page.  If she finds the book later and wants to mail it to you that can be dealt with all on it's own.  The best way to handle the current situation is for her to seek cancellation of the transaction related to that book.

edited to ask: what's a booboo-book?  About booboos and owies?

While that's true, Leslie, it doesn't record the fact that she marked a book mailed even though she didn't even really have the book (yes, I know she "has" the book, but she doesn't know where, and it wasn't even close to mailed is my point).  By having her send the message to PBS and asking that they cancel the transaction they are made aware of the fact that she marked an item mailed that was never even packaged, as well as the credit going where it belongs.

Yes, but I wouldn't recommend this, cuz he didn't actually receive a book for that transaction.  He would have many more steps to complete (going into his TBR to remove it, etc) and those would be unnecessary.  The sender just needs to contact PBS.
