Just curious but how long can a book stay on status accepted?

A WL book came up and I marked that I wanted it.  Now all it shows is accepted and that has been since 8-4.  Is there a time line on this like on the mail by dates?

I've had them show this for a day or two but not this long.

If they choose "I can mail this book later" and then choose 5 days out to mail it, it could be there awhile.

But won't it at least show a mail by date?  All this says is accepted.  I guess on their end it is on the screen where it says I can mail in two day or mail this book later.

Makes me want to cancel it.  Guess I will let it sit a while longer.

If it just says "accepted" that means they chose "I can mail within 2 days." In reality though, they have the 2 days plus the same 48 hour grace period those who pick a date choose. It should be marked mailed by tonight (I think--depends on the time of day it was accepted) or the system will cancel it.

I should add, it's best if you don't cancel it, because if you do and order again, it goes right back to that same person. If it times out, it's removed from their shelf and they get their account flagged for not responding in time.

Not everyone is at the computer every day.  Some are on only on weekends, some have to go to the library to get online.   If you cancel and reorder, it'll just go to the same person.  Better to let it time out and let the system work.

I'm not going to cancel the order, it just makes it tempting to want to.

Thanks for the responses.

Here is some info from the help docs. It looks like accepted is she has two days to mail it if you see accepted.  Then when she prints the wrapper you will recevie the mail date info.  Mail by deadline after Sender Accepts

It depends on which button the sender clicks when accepting a request.

  • If the sender clicks
    • He or she has 5 days in which to mark the transaction mailed.  The deadline is at the end of the 5th day.
    • If the sender clicks "I can mail in the next 2 days" the Status of the transaction on the request on the requestor's  account page will read "Accepted".

  • If the sender clicks
    • The book must be marked mailed by 2 days after the alternate mail-by date chosen.   The deadline is at the end of the second day after the mail-by date.
    • If a sender clicks "I can mail later" the status of the transaction on the request on the requestor's  account page will show "Will Mail by:" and the alternate mailby date chosen.
  • If a book is not marked mailed by the deadline
    • The request will cancel automatically, and will be passed along to another member offering a copy of the same book.
      • the requestor will NOT get an email when this happens.
      • the requestor will be able to tell that the request has passed along because the request date will have changed.
    • If there is no other copy of the book available, the book will go back onto the requestor's Wish List and the requestor will get the credit back.
      • the requestor WILL get an email when this happens.

They may be waiting until the last minute.

If they wait five days, they can then take five more days to mail (and I believe up to two additional days to mark it mailed) giving a total of 12 days before actually mailing.

They may do this if they are waiting for  payday, etc to have the finances to mail the book.

Myself, I have several books I accepted that I posted this weekend, but waiting for funds to electronic transfer between banks to make the Paypal purchase (I do not use my primary bank account for PayPal).  Once the funds are in the new bank, I will puchase postage and they will be on their way.

Didn't realize I had let it go so low, but in the event someone hacks PayPal, they do not get access to the majority of my funds, only a small amount.

I requested a book on 8-7 and it was accepted on 8-9 (mail within 2 days). It's still sitting in my 'books requested'. No label rinted, no mailed date... I haven't cancelled it (it's not a WL), but I'm curious as to when it will time out and I'll get my point back to order another copy  (just checked... this is the only copy listed).

Thanks:)

I read the previous post about the timeframe but I'm still a little confused (need to get some sleep, lol.)

Leslie - your book should time out during the night of 8/14. (8/9 + 5 full days)

Thanks, lol. I probably could have figured that out if I would've taken a couple of seconds to do so!:)

Got it:) Unfortunately, there isn't another copy. If I WL it then it would go to the same sender...
